Smaller models. Bigger possibilities for agent work.

Anthropic's Haiku 5.5 announcement puts everyday, high volume tasks in focus.

What was announced

Anthropic introduced Claude Haiku 5.5 on 7 October. The company positions it for frequent, narrowly scoped work, including summarising information, classifying requests and querying databases. It also describes uses in customer support, browser interaction and supporting larger models on coding tasks.

What it could mean for business

For businesses, this raises a useful question: which jobs need a large model, and which can use a smaller one? Our view is to compare the cost of a successfully completed task, including corrections, rather than model price alone.

A useful next step

Choose one repeated task with examples of a good result. Compare accuracy, completion time and exception handling before changing the model behind it.
